LTC Yager
Professor of Military Science
Lieutenant Colonel Yager is a native of New York, New York. He was commissioned in the Artillery in March of 1989 from Officers Candidate School, Fort Benning GA. LTC Yager received his Baccalaureates degree from California State University Sonoma in 1987, and a Masters in Public Administration from Wilmington College, Delaware in 2000.
Lieutenant Colonel Yager served in company grade officer positions as Platoon Leader, Fire Direction Officer, Assistant Battalion S3, Company Commander, Brigade Assistant Operation Officer and Assistant Professor of Military Science. As a Field Grade Officer, LTC Yager served as a student at the Command and General Staff College, Brigade Executive Officer, Battalion Operations Officer, and Brigade Operations Officer. LTC Yager’s past assignments include 2nd Infantry Division Camp Stanley Korea 1989-1990, 3-11 FA Fort Lewis Washington 1991-1993, Student Fort Rucker, Alabama 1993-1994, C Company 2-2 Aviation Camp Stanley Korea 1995-1996, HHC 6-101 Aviation Fort Campbell, Kentucky 1996-1998, University of Delaware 1998-2001, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas 2001-2002, 12th Aviation Brigade Giebelstadt Germany 2002-2003, 3-158 Aviation Balad Iraq 2003-2004, 12th Aviation Brigade in Germany and Afghanistan 2004-2006. He is a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom I and Operation Enduring Freedom VI.
LTC Yager’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star (2 Awards), the Air Medal (2 Awards), the Meritorious Service Medal (3 Awards), the Joint commendation Medal, the Army Commendation Medal (3 Awards), the Army Achievement Medal (4 Awards), the Humanitarian Service Medal, the Army Ranger Tab, Army Aviator Badge, Airborne Badge and the Air Assault Badge.
LTC Yager is married his wife of Beaverton Oregon, they have one son.

MAJ Edwards
Executive Officer / Sophomore instructor
MAJ Edwards is a native of Fairfax, VA. He is a 3-time VA Tech graduate, having earned a BS, Business (1991), MS, Education (1995), and an MBA (2002). He earned his Reserve Component commission through VA Tech in 1991.
His first 3 assignments in the Army Reserves were as a PL/XO with the 760 EN CO (CSE), Marion, VA (JUL 92-JUL 99), the Engineer Staff Officer, 2174 USAR Garrison, Salem, VA (AUG 99-MAR 00), and as Company Commander, A CO, 463rd EN BN (C)(H), Marion, VA (APR 00-FEB 03). He also taught in the Fairfax County, VA Public School System (1994-2003) as a teacher and a coach.
In FEB 2003, MAJ Edwards was selected into the Active Guard and Reserve Program. His 1st assignment on active duty was at US Army III Corps HQ, Fort Hood, TX. He served on the Corps Staff Engineer Section in a dual role, as the III Corps Topographic Engineer Officer and as an Engineer Plans Officer (FEB 03-JUN 05). He deployed with III Corps to Iraq and served as an Engineer Plans Officer during Operation Iraqi Freedom 2 (DEC 03-DEC 04).
He is now in his 2nd active duty assignment serving as the Assistant Professor of Military Science (BN XO) at the University of Rhode Island and the 2nd year Military Science Instructor for the Cramer’s Sabers Battalion. His teaching duties include the 2nd year Military Science cadets at Roger Williams University and Salve Regina University.
MAJ Edwards military education includes US Army Airborne School (Fort Benning, GA, 1991), US Army Engineer Basic Course (Fort Leonard Wood, MO, 1992), US Army Engineer Advance Course (Fort Leonard Wood, MO, 2001), the Combined Arms and Services Staff School (2003), and the Topographic Operations Management Course (2003).
MAJ Edwards awards and decorations include the Joint Services Commendation Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal (2), the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Joint Meritorious Unit Award, the Iraq Campaign Medal, and the Parachutist Badge.
MAJ Edward won the Leo Cobb award this year. #1 Instructor of all Army ROTC.
MAJ Edwards is married and has 2 daughters and one son.

CPT Poland
Operations Officer
Captain Poland is a native of East Providence, Rhode Island. He was commissioned in the Infantry in May 0f 1990 from the University of Rhode Island, where he also received his baccalaureates degree in Business Administration.
Captain Poland’s assignments include the Executive Officer and Team Leader of a Special Forces Operational Detachment in Company A 19th Special Forces, the Executive Officer for the 173rd Long Range Surveillance Detachment, and the Rear detachment Commander of Charlie Company 172nd Mountain Company. Captain Poland is a veteran of Afghanistan OEF VI.
CPT Poland’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star, The Army commendation Medal (2 Awards) the Army Achievement Medal, the Army Special Forces Tab, the Army Ranger Tab, the Combat Infantrymans Badge, Airborne Badge, German Parachutist Badge, Egyptian Parachutist Badge as well as numerous other service and campaign ribbons.
CPT Poland currently resides in Seekonk Massachusetts, is married and has three children.

CPT Soares
Enrollment and Scholarship Officer
Captain Soares is a native of Waverly, New York. She is a graduate of the Florida Institute of Technology where she received her Baccalaureate degree in Biology. CPT Soares was commissioned in 2000 through ROTC into the Transportation Corps. Her assignments include duties as Platoon Leader 119th CTC, 11th Trans BN, Executive Officer 368th CTC, 11th Trans BN, Executive Officer 159th POCC, 11th Trans BN, and Battalion Adjutant, 11th Trans BN, 7th Trans GRP, Fort Story, Virginia. She is a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom I.
CPT Soares’ awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal (2 awards), National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.
CPT Soares is married. Her husband is from East Freetown, MA.

SFC Ferrara
Operations NCO / Junior Instructor
Sergeant First Class Ferrara is a native of Cranston, Rhode Island. He entered the army in August of 1989 where he completed Basic Training and Infantry AIT at Fort Benning, Georgia. SFC Ferrara received his Associates Degree from Troy University in 2005.

Ms. Lachapelle
Cadet Administrator
Ms. LaChapelle is a native of Rhode Island. She has been working for the Department of Military Science for 10 years. Her responsibilities encompass all issues dealing with Cadet administrative processing and paperwork. She has also become the heart and soul of the battalion as she strives to help each cadet on their way to commissioning and beyond. Generally, if any cadet has a problem or needs help Joanne is the first person they go to, whether it be pay problems, issues with the University, advice regarding school or their military career options, and how to go about making it happen.

Ms. Dorothy Cabral
Human Resource/Logistics Technician
Ms. Cabral is a native of Fall River, MA. She is a graduate of Providence College where she received a Baccalaureate degree in Liberal Studies. Ms. Cabral served as a Department of the Army civilian assigned to the Department of Military Science at Providence College from March 1979 until her promotion to the 1Bde Headquarters at Fort Devens, MA, where she served as the Logistics Management Specialist from April 2007 until retiring in February 2008.
In February 2008 Ms. Cabral became the Human Resource/Logistics Technician at Roger Williams University Department of Military Science thus becoming the first full time cadre member at the Roger Williams ROTC office.
Ms. Cabral’s awards include the Chief of Staff Army Supply Excellence Award, the Commander’s Award, Achievement Medal for Civilian Service, and the Superior Civilian Service Award .
Her hobbies include spending time with her pets, bicycling and kayaking.

Ms. DiCicco
Cadre Administrator
Ms. DiCicco grew up in Westwood, Massachusetts, she moved to Rhode Island in 1985. She is a graduate of Quinebaug Valley Community College, Danielson, CT, with a degree in Business Management. Ms. DiCicco has been employed at URI since 1998 working four years in the Department of Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures then on to the Office of Student Life for 5 years, leaving that position to join URI Army ROTC as the Administrative Assistant to all cadre.
Along with her husband, Ms. DiCicco has two sons and two step-daughters. She is addicted to golf, enjoys taking long walks with her husband, reading, the Red Sox and Patriots.

Mr. Martin
Supply Technician
CSM (Ret) Martin was born in Conway, South Carolina and served in the U.S. Army from January 1972 until February 2000.
His military education included the Basic Leadership Course, Infantry Mortar Platoon Course (IMPOC), Drill Sergeant School, NBC Enlisted Course, Human Resources Management Course, School of Cadet Command, and Safety Office Course. He was on the Commandant’s List at both the Basic Noncommissioned Officer Course and the Advance Noncommissioned Officer Course. He was a graduate of the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy, Class 42.
