Lieutenant Colonel Harris, Engineer Corps

Professor of Military Science - Instructor, Military Science IV.

Lieutenant Colonel Harris was born in Buffalo, New York, on 7 NOV 59, and was commissioned a second lieutenant in the United States Air Force on 30 NOV 1984. He later transferred to the Army, accepting a direct commission as a first lieutenant in the Corps of Engineers.

His assignments have included; Platoon Leader, 642nd Engineer Company (CSE); Company Executive Officer, Charlie Company, 41st Engineer BN; Assistant Division Engineer, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, NY; Adjutant 326th Engineer Battalion; Company Commander Alpha Company 326th Engineer Battalion, 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, KY; Commander, Sapper Training Detachment and HHC Company Commander, 577th Engineer Battalion, Ft Leonard Wood, MO; HHC Company Commander 191st Infantry Brigade (TS), Fort Lewis, WA; Security Assistance Officer, United States Military Training Mission - Saudi Arabia, Riyadh Saudi Arabia; Assistant G3, I Corps, Fort Lewis, WA; and Group Engineer, 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne), Fort Lewis WA.

LTC Harris has an Associates of Science degree in Surveying Technology from the State University of New York at Alfred; a Bachelor of Science in Surveying from Ferris State College, Michigan; and a Masters in Engineering Management from St. Martin’s College, Washington.








LTC Barrecchia, Field Artillery

Assistant PMS and Instructor, Military Science I

Lieutenant Colonel Barrecchia was commissioned in the Air Defense Artillery in 1979. His assignments include: Section Leader, HHC, 1st Battalion, 38th Field Artillery, Republic of Korea; Battery Executive Officer, Bravo Battery, 3rd Battalion, 68th Air Defense Artillery and S-4 3rd Battalion, 68th Air Defense Artillery, Fort Bragg, North Carolina; Executive Officer, 47th United States Army Artillery Detachment, 559th United States Army Artillery Group; Technical Assistance Visit Team Chief, Southern European Task Force, Italy; Commander, 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry (BCT) and G-3 Basic Training, United States Army Training Center Fort Dix, New Jersey; Field Artillery Battery Evaluator, 78th Maneuver Training Command, Chief, Scenario Development, 1st Brigade, 78th Division, Operations Officer, General Staff Reform Team and Director, Afghan General Staff Special Staff, Afghanistan; and as Operations Officer G-3/5/7 on the Army Staff at the Pentagon. Lieutenant Colonel Barrecchia's military schooling includes linguist training at the Defense Language Institute at the Presidio of Monterey, California and the Combined Arms Service and Staff School at Fort Leavenworth , Kansas.

Lieutenant Colonel Barrecchia's awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal (Two Oak Leaf Clusters), the Army Commendation Medal (Six Oak Leaf Clusters), the Army Achievement Medal (One Oak Leaf Cluster), the National Defense Service Medal, the Korea Defense Medal, and the Global War on Terror Expeditionary and Service Medals.

Major Moreno, Military Intelligence Corps

Operations Officer, Instructor, Military Science II

Major Moreno began his military career as an enlisted infantryman in 1989. He attended basictraining and advanced individual training at Fort Benning, GA. While assigned to the 7th Infantry Division (Light), Fort Ord, CA, MAJ Moreno deployed for police actions in Panama following Operation Just Cause in 1990 and helped to provide stability in Los Angeles during the riots following the Rodney King verdict in April 1992. In August 1993, CPT Moreno left the service to pursue an undergraduate degree. Upon completion of a political science degree from Texas A&M University, he was commissioned as a Military Intelligence Officer on 20 December 1996. 

Following graduation, MAJ Moreno reported to Fort Huachuca, AZ to attend the Military Intelligence Officer Basic Course. His first assignment after the basic course was as platoon leader of a divisional, general-support, signals intelligence platoon in 101st Military Intelligence Battalion, Wurzburg, Germany. MAJ Moreno then transitioned to 1st Battalion, 77th Armor Regiment to serve as the assistant S2. In June 1999, he deployed with 1-77 Armor to Kosovo as a member of KFOR 1A. After completing the Military Intelligence Captain’s Career Course at Fort Huachuca, AZ in February 2001, MAJ Moreno attended the Combined Arms Services Staff School, the Counter-intelligence Course, and Airborne School. In August 2001, MAJ Moreno was assigned to XVIII Airborne Corps Headquarters as a G2 Planner. In March 2002, he was then reassigned to 229th Aviation Regiment as the Regimental S2. After an eight-month deployment to Afghanistan, MAJ Moreno took command of HHC, 229th Aviation Regiment in September 2003. As a result of the Army’s restructuring, the 229th Aviation Regiment began deactivation in May 2004 and MAJ Moreno inactivated his company in September 2004. MAJ Moreno then reassigned to HHC, 18th Aviation Brigade to act as the brigade’s headquarters company rear detachment commander. He performed this duty from September 2004 until June 2005 when he was reassigned to the University of Maine’s Black Bear Battalion. 

MAJ Moreno’s awards and decorations include the Expert Infantryman’s Badge, Parachutist Badge, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (3OLC), Army Achievement Medal (2OLC), Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Kosovo Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary and Service Medals, and NATO Medal.








MAJ Lyon, Infantry Corps

Recruiting Operations Officer

MAJ Lyon was born in Erie , Pennsylvania . He is a 1989 graduate from the Pennsylvania State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Speech Communication and a minor in Business. He is a 1995 graduate of the University of Maine with a Master of Arts Degree in Communication. He is currently enrolled in Husson College 's Master of Science in Business program.

MAJ Lyon enlisted as a naval cryptologist in 1989. He was a member of a no-notice eleven man cryptologic team stationed in Winter Harbor , ME. After his initial tour, he enlisted as a Combat Medic in the Maine Army National Guard's B/3-172nd IN (MTN). After graduating as the distinguished honor graduate from Maine 's Officer Candidate School , MAJ Lyon served as a Platoon Leader for Bravo Company. He was then selected to help stand up Maine 's elite 11th Civil Support Team (Weapons of Mass Destruction) as the Operations Officer. He was promoted to Deputy Commander of the team.

Following that assignment, he took command of B/3-172nd Infantry (Mountain) in October 2004. He deployed the company to Tallil , Iraq from January 2006 to March 2007 as the commander. Upon his change of command in September 2007, MAJ Lyon was assigned as the University of Maine 's ROTC department's
Enrollment Officer.

MAJ Lyon's awards include the Bronze Star, the Meritorious Service Medal (1 OLC), the Army Commendation Medal (3 OLC), the Army Achievement Medal (1OLC), the Naval Good Conduct Medal, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Ribbon (with Gold Star), the Iraqi Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Medal and the Humanitarian Service Medal. He is an
inducted member of the Infantry's Order of St. Maurice.

MAJ Lyon lives with his wife and three children in Bangor , Maine . He is the past president of the Bangor Lions Club, a founding officer of the COL Lewis Millett Chapter of Maine's National Infantry Association; a member of St Andrew's Lodge, the Anah Temple Shrine and volunteers his time as a coach for Bangor Youth Football.








SFC Pope, Infantry Corps

Operations NCO, Instructor, Military Science III

SFC Pope was born in Providence , Rhode Island on March 1, 1969. SFC Pope enlisted in the Army Reserve on April 15, 1986 as an Infantryman. After completing split option training for Infantry at Fort Benning , Georgia he enlisted in the Army on February 1, 1988 and was assigned to 2nd BN 187th Infantry (IN) FT. Campbell , KY.

His follow on assignments include: 2nd BN 4th IN Neu Ulm, Germany , 42nd Medical Company Frankfurt, Germany, 5th BN 101st Aviation Regiment FT. Campbell, KY, 2nd BN 27th IN Schofield Barracks, Hawaii , 2nd BN 54th IN FT. Benning, GA, 2nd BN 1st IN FT Wainwright, AK. SFC Pope also served in Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm with 42nd Medical Company as well as Operation Iraqi Freedom III and IV with the 172nd Stryker Brigade. SFC Pope is currently serving as a Military Instructor at the University of Maine , Army ROTC. His previous duty positions include: Rifleman, Automatic Rifleman, Grenadier, Machine Gunner, Dragon Gunner, Radio/Telephone Operator, Ambulance Driver, Tactical Transport Helicopter Door Gunner, Fire Team Leader, Squad Leader, Drill Sergeant, Intelligence Sergeant, Platoon Sergeant, Assistant Operations Sergeant, and Battle Captain.

He has completed the Battle Staff NCO course, Equal Opportunity Leaders course, Northern Warfare Leaders course, Infantry Advanced NCO course, Airborne course, NBC Defense course, Combat Lifesaver course, Drill Sergeant course, Infantry Basic NCO course, Master Fitness Trainer course, MOUT Leaders course, Warrior Leaders course and the Air Assault course.

His awards include the Combat Infantryman Badge, Expert Infantryman Badge, Drill Sergeant Badge, Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge, Valorous Unit Award with oak leaf cluster, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with oak leaf cluster, Army Commendation Medal with oak leaf cluster, Army Achievement Medal with 9 oak leaf clusters, Good Conduct Medals, National Defense Service Medals, Liberation of Kuwait Medals, Multi National Forces of Observers Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medals, Humanitarian Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal, Overseas Service Ribbons, NCO Professional Development Ribbons, and the Army Service Ribbon.








Mrs. Barbeau

Human Resources Administrator

Ms. Barbeau was born in Latrobe, PA. She enlisted in the United States Army in August of 1984. Upon completing Basic Training and AIT, she was assigned to the 7th Army Training Command, Combined Arms Training Center in Vilseck, Germany.

She has completed Primary Leadership Development Course and Basic Noncommissioned Officer course.  Her major assignments include two tours in Germany, one in Korea, six years with the White House Communications Agency and 3 years as Administrative NCO at the University of Maine Army ROTC.

Her awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Accommodation Medal, Army Commendation Medal with 3 oak leaf clusters, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal with 3 oak leaf clusters, and the Presidential Service Badge.

She retired 1 Sep 04 as a Staff Sergeant after 20 years of active duty and this is her first assignment as a DA Civilian.








Mrs. Ferland

Administrative Assistant

Mrs. Ferland has been employed with the University of Maine for nine years. My history began with the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders as a Secretary in a twenty-hour position. Desiring a full time position, I accepted the job as Administrative Assistant in the Department of Modern Languages and Classics and worked there for three years. In May 2003, I began working in the Department of Military Science/Army ROTC and hope to be there until my retirement.

I am presently an officer holding the position of Secretary on the CEAC (Classified Employee Advisory Council) for the University.

I am currently a junior here at the University of Maine working toward a four-year degree. My interests include American Sign Language, Cross Country Skiing, and Creative Writing.

I am here to support, assist, edify, and encourage our Army ROTC cadets and the rest of the team here at Army ROTC in any manner that I am able.
I am pleased to be part of the Cadre as their Administrative Assistant.

Mr. McIntyre

Supply Technician

SFC McIntyre was born in Presque Isle, Maine on 9 June 1966. He enlisted in the United States Army in December of 1984. Upon completing One Station Unit Training for Infantry at Fort Benning, Georgia, he was assigned to the 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

He has completed the Infantry Advanced Non Commissioned Officer course, the Battle Staff NCO course, Sniper school, Combat Leader course, Light Infantry Leader course, Drill Sergeant School, Instructor Trainer course, Infantry Basic Non Commissioned Officer course, NBC school, Northern Warfare Instructor’s course, Combat Lifesaver course, Marine Corps Amphibious Warfare school, Rappel Master course, Air Assault school, and Small Group Leader course.

His major assignments include two tours with the 101st Airborne Division, two tours with the 6th Infantry Division (L) in Alaska, 10th Mountain Division (LI), USATC at Fort Jackson, South Carolina where he served as a Drill Sergeant, and Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri where he served as an Instructor/Writer for Combat Training Command.

He has served as an Instructor /Writer, Operations NCO, Platoon Sergeant, Drill Sergeant, Recon Squad Leader, Sniper Team Leader, Squad Leader, Team Leader, and Infantryman.

His awards include the Meritorious Service Medal with oak leaf cluster, Army Accommodation Medal with 6 oak leaf clusters, the Army Achievement Medal with 6 oak leaf clusters, the Expeditionary Medal, NATO ribbon, and MFO ribbon.
