ROTC Offers Many Opportunities to Excel
In Army ROTC, it's not all classroom and field training. There are many opportunities
for you to get to know your fellow cadets better and increase your skills in a variety
of areas. Learn more about these events and activities below.

Ranger Challenge
The Ranger Challenge is an opportunity for schools to "compete" with each other
completing military tasks. In addition to a written examination where Cadets
test their Army knowledge, there are physical fitness drills and field exercises.
Battalions leave a Ranger Challenge with stronger bonds and sharper skills.

Pershing Rifles
The National Society of Pershing Rifles gives Army ROTC Cadets the opportunity
to develop to the highest degree possible. Cadets can take part in precision
trick rifle drill teams that provide them with the outstanding traits of
leadership, military bearing and discipline.

Ranger Challenge
Ranger Challenge is an opportunity for ROTC students from different
universities to "compete" with each other in specific military tasks.
In addition to a written examination where Cadets test their Army knowledge,
there is a road march, a Physical Fitness test, a one-rope bridge competition,
and a land navigation course. ROTC students volunteer to participate on
the school’s Ranger Challenge team.

Silver Taps Ceremony
Each spring semester, Tarleton State University student body holds a Silver
Taps ceremony to honor the alumni who have passed away during the previous
year. The name of each deceased alumni is read and a candle is lit in
their honor. Currently-enrolled students act as candle holders and form a
“T” formation. The ROTC Department plans and participates in the Silver
Taps ceremony. The ROTC Department provides a color guard, a firing
detail, a guest speaker, and candle holders.

Homecoming Activities
The ROTC Department is actively involved in the University Homecoming Week
activities. ROTC provides a color guard and a military vehicle for the
Homecoming parade. We also provide a color guard and a saber arch for the
Homecoming football game and the Homecoming Queen ceremony. ROTC also
provides a color guard for the annual Alumni Dinner. There is also a
drum-beating activity and a bon fire/pep rally during Homecoming
Week.
