LTC Shirley Sutton

Professor of Military Science / Military Science IV Instructor

Lieutenant Colonel Shirley D. Sutton graduated from Alcorn State University in 1988 with a Baccalaureate Degree in Education.  She was branched into the Adjutant General's Corps.  She earned a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership from Troy State University, Troy, Alabama.  She earned a second Master's Degree in Strategic Military Studies at Maxwell Air Force Base, Maxwell, Alabama, where she also graduated from Air Command and Staff College.

Lieutenant Colonel Sutton has served the Army from platoon level to Unified Staff.  In June of 2006, she assumed duties as Professor of Military Science at Southern University's Jaguar Battalion.  Lieutenant Colonel Sutton served as Division Strength Manager and Deputy G-1, 24th Infantry Division, Fort Riley, KS, from June 2003 to June 2006, where she was responsible for the personnel readiness of three active duty Brigade Combat Teams (BCT's) and Echelons Above Corps units as well as three National Guard BCT's.  She served in the 21st Theater Support Command, Kaiserslautern, Germany, as the G-1 Chief of Plans and Operations and Enlisted Strength Manager from June 1999 until June 2002.  In June 1996 until 1999, she was assigned as Executive Staff Assistant to the Supreme Allied Commander Europe and Commander-in-Chief, European Command.  Lieutenant Colonel Sutton also served in the Republic of South Korea from 1994 until 1996 as the Officer Strength Manager, 8th Personnel Command, Yongsan, Korea.  Lieutenant Colonel Sutton is most fond of her upbringing as a second lieutenant at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, Home of the Airborne.  There she held various positions from 1989 until 1994, to include Postal Platoon Leader, 129th Postal Company; Postal Operations Officer, 18th Personnel and Administration Battalion; Chief, Fort Bragg Transition Center, during the post Desert Shield/Storm Army drawdown.  Her career culminated at Fort Bragg, with her assignment as Company Commander, Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 18th Personnel Group (Airborne). 

Lieutenant Colonel Sutton's deployments include Operation Desert Shield/Operation Desert Storm where she served with the 129th Postal Company, 18th Personnel and Administration Battalion.  She deployed to Bosnia-Herzegovina and the Port of Rijeka, Croatia, with the 21st Theater Support Command, in support of Operation Allied Freedom. 

Lieutenant Colonel Sutton's personal decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Defense Meritorious Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal (3 awards), the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, and the Army Achievement Medal.  She is also Airborne qualified.

Lieutenant Colonel Sutton is originally from McComb, Mississippi and is married to Major Glen E. Sutton.  They have two children, Joy (5) and Jordan (2).      








Master Sergeant Ulysses Bell

Senior Military Instructor and Commandant of Cadets

Infantry - SMI and MSIII Instructor

MSG Ulysses Bell Jr hails from Baton Rouge, Louisiana.  He entered active service on 21 Jan 1988. MSG Bell completed Basic Combat Training at Fort Benning, Georgia. His career has taken him to assignments in Fort Drum, New York, Schofield Barracks Hawaii, Fort Campbell, KY, Fort Meyer, Virginia, and Santa Barbara, California.

MSG Bell has held numerous leadership positions to include, currently the Sergeant Major of The Southern University Jaguar Battalion, First Sergeant Alpha Company 3RD US Infantry, The Old Guard (TOG); Operations Sergeant, 3d US Infantry (TOG); First Platoon Sergeant, Alpha Company 3d US Infantry (TOG); Senior Instructor Division Pre- Ranger course Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. Platoon Sergeant, Section Sergeant and Squad Leader 2/35th Infantry Battalion, Schofield Barracks, HI.  Senior Instructor at The Air Assault School Fort Campbell, KY Phase II Sling Load Committee.

MSG Bell's school included; the Infantry Primary Noncommissioned Officer Course; the Infantry Basic Noncommissioned Officer Course; the Infantry Advance Noncommissioned Officer Course; Air Assault School; Ranger School; Pathfinder Course; Airborne; Air load Planners Course, and the United States Army Battle Staff Course. He also has an Associates Degree.

MSG Bell's awards and decorations included the Meritorious Service Medal; the Army Commendation Medal (w/3 Oak Leaf Cluster); the Army Achievement Medal (w/silver Oak Leaf Cluster); Good Conduct Medal (5th Award); National Defense Service Medal; War on Terror Expeditionary Medal; NCO Professional Development Ribbon (w/ a #3); Army Service Ribbon; Overseas Ribbon; Expert Infantryman's Badge; Air Assault Badge; Ranger Tab; German Proficiency Badge; Ecuadorian Parachutist Badge; and Pathfinder Badge.








Major Glenn Bergeron

Assistant Professor of Military Science / Executive Officer

Major Glenn Bergeron enlisted in the Army in 1985 as an Infantryman and was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 156th Infantry Regiment.  He was commissioned as an Infantry officer in 1988 and served at Fort Bragg, North Carolina in the 82nd Airborne Division as a Rifle Platoon Leader, Anti-tank/Scout Platoon Leader, and Company Executive Officer with 1st Battalion, 325th Airborne Infantry Regiment.  During that time he deployed to Saudi Arabia as part of Operation Desert Shield to Saudi Arabia and subsequently conducted operations in Iraq as part of Operation Desert Storm.  After transitioning to a Military Intelligence officer, he served at Fort Benning, Georgia in the 3rd Infantry Division as a Deputy Brigade Intelligence Officer and Battalion Intelligence Officer.  He then returned to the Infantry and assumed command of B Company, 1st Battalion, 507th Parachute Infantry Regiment.  Following command he served as the Military Intelligence Instructor of the U.S. Army Infantry School.  Major Bergeron’s next duty station was in Baton Rouge, Louisiana with the Louisiana State University Army ROTC program as an Assistant Professor of Military Science where he served as the Operations and Training Officer and MS III Instructor.  He also served as the faculty advisor for the Bengal Raiders organization.  His next duty station was with 3rd United States Army, Fort McPherson, Georgia and deployed for Operation Enduring Freedom with duty at Camp Doha, Kuwait where he served as Intelligence Operations and Plans Officer with the Coalition Forces Land Component Command and later at Camp As-Sayliyah, Qatar to serve as an Intelligence Liaison Officer with the Coalition Forces Special Operations Component Command.  Following redeployment he served at the University of Texas at Arlington Army ROTC program in Arlington, TX as an Assistant Professor of Military Science where he again served as the Operations and Training Officer and MS III Instructor.  .  After being transferred to Southern University, he was mobilized with the Louisiana Army National Guard as the Commander of the 415 Military Intelligence Detachment.  During that time he served for six months in New Orleans, LA in command of Task Force Viper in support of Hurricane Katrina Recovery Operations.  He has returned to Southern University and now serves as the Executive Officer of the Jaguar Battalion.

Major Bergeron’s awards and decorations include the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, Expert Infantryman’s Badge, Master Parachutist Badge, Pathfinder Badge, Air Assault Badge, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (4 awards), Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal (2 awards), National Defense Service Medal (2 awards), Global War on Terror Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terror Service Medal, and Humanitarian Service Medal, Louisiana Cross of Merit, Louisiana Emergency Service Medal, and French Parachutist Badge.

Major Bergeron holds a Baccalaureate Degree in Psychology with a Minor in Military Science from Nicholls State University, Thibodaux, LA.

Major Bergeron is originally from Pierre Part, LA and is married to the former Valari Peeples of Mansfield, TX. 








Major Mario Pipkin

Assistant Professor of Military Science / Training Officer

Major Mario L. Pipkin is a native of Senatobia, Mississippi.  He was commissioned in 1997 as a Field Artillery officer from Mississippi Valley State University Army Reserve Officer Training Corps.  He received a Baccalaureate Degree in Biology from Mississippi Valley State University in Itta Bena, Mississippi and two Masters Degrees; one in Human Resources from Central Michigan University and one in Management and Leadership from the Webster University.  

Upon completion of his Officer Basic Course he was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas and served as a Multiple Launch Rocket System Platoon Leader in Bravo Battery 2nd Battalion, 20th Field Artillery, Company Fire Support Office for C Troop, 1st Squadron, 10 Calvary.  He deployed with C Troop 1st Squadron, 10th Calvary to Operation Intrinsic Action in Kuwait.  His next assignment was Battalion Maintenance Officer for 4th Battalion, 42nd Field Artillery during the 4th Infantry Division Limited User Test and Force XXI Battle Command, Brigade and Below Testing at the National Training Center, Fort Irwin California. 

Major Pipkin then moved on to the Field Artillery Captain’s Career Course and combined Arms and Services Staff School.  Immediately following, Major Pipkin was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 7th Field Artillery, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii where he served as the Battalion Logistics Officer.  His follow-on assignment was Battalion Fire Support Officer for 2nd Battalion, 35th Infantry Regiment (The Cacti Battalion).  Major Pipkin returned from Hawaii to 1st Battalion, 17th Field Artillery, Fort Sill, Oklahoma where he served six months as the Assistant S-3 during Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was the project officer for the 1st Battalion new Iraqi Army, Infantry Company at Kirkush Military Training Base.  Upon his return form Operation Iraqi Freedom, he took command of Headquarters and Headquarters Battery 1st Battalion, 17th Field Artillery during regeneration operations.  He subsequently commanded C Battery, 1st Battalion, 22nd Field Artillery One Station Unit Training Battery.  His current assignment is at Southern University and A & M College as the Scholarship and Enrollment Officer for the Jaguar Battalion.

Major Pipkin’s awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal (4 awards), the Army Achievement (3 awards), the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Overseas Service ribbon, the National Defense Service Medal ( 2 awards), the Army Service Ribbon, and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal.








First Lieutenant Brett Cable

Assistant Professor of Military Science / Logistics Officer / MS I Instructor

In September of 2006, First Lieutenant Brett Anderson Cable took on the position of Assistant Professor of Military Science, S4 and Property Book Officer with the Southern University and A & M College Jaguar Battalion.  First Lieutenant Cable military career began on May 28, 1992 where he enlisted with the Louisiana Army National Guard, 3rd Battalion, 156th Infantry Regiment of the 256th Mechanized Infantry Brigade (Tigers) in May of 1992. 

First Lieutenant Cable graduated from Northwestern State University, Louisiana in 1997 with a Bachelors Degree in General Studies with concentration in Criminal Justice and a minor in Sociology. 

First Lieutenant Cable has served with the Louisiana Army National Guard for fifteen years as he ascended in the enlisted ranks from private to staff sergeant before attending the Officer Candidate School (OCS) in 2000.  First Lieutenant Cable graduated OCS in August of 2000 and completed his Officer Basic Course in the Quartermaster Corps at Fort Lee, Virginia in April 2001.

First Lieutenant Cable has served the Army National Guard as a platoon leader in the Petroleum, Oils and Lubricant, Supply and Transportation platoons with the 199TH Brigade Support Battalion, Alexandria, Louisiana. 

From March 2004 through September 2005, First Lieutenant Cable was deployed for Operation Iraqi Freedom where he served as Executive Officer for A Company and later Headquarters Company of the 199th.  He also served as Officer in Charge for the brigade warehouse and the ammunition holding area for the base at North Liberty (Camp Victory), Iraq. 

First Lieutenant Cable has earned several awards and decorations that include the Army Achievement Medal (2 awards), the Defense Meritorious Medal (2 awards), the Armed Forces Reserve Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal,  the Iraq Campaign Medal, the Non-commissioned Officer Professional Development Medal, the Louisiana War Cross, the Louisiana Good Conduct Medal (3 awards) and the Louisiana Longevity Medal (3awards).

First Lieutenant Brett A. Cable hails from Leesville, Louisiana and is the son of MAJ(Ret) Bill F. Cable and Gail P. Cable of Leesville.

Sergeant First Class Roland Kennedy

Training Non-Commissioned Officer / Military Science II Instructor

Sergeant First Class Ronald F. Kennedy hails from New Orleans, LA. He entered active service on June 30th, 1987 as a 13 Bravo (Field Artillery). SFC Kennedy completed Basic Combat Training and Advance Individual Training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. His assignments include Schofield Barracks, Hawaii; Fort Polk, Louisiana; 2 tours to the republic of Korea; Fort Hood, Texas; Fort Sill, Oklahoma; Operation Iraqi Freedom; and presently at Southern University assigned as a MS II instructor and Training NCO.

SFC Kennedy has held every leadership position as required within the 13 Bravo Mos, from Howitzer Section Chief, Gunnery Sergeant and Platoon Sergeant

SFC Kennedy's schools include the Primary Leadership Development Course; the Basic Noncommissioned Officer Course; the Advance Noncommissioned Officer Course, Air Assault School, Light Fighter Course I & II;  Generator Operator School; Information Security Course;

SFC Kennedy's awards and decoration include the Meritorious Service Medal (2 Award); the Army Commendation Medal (4th Award); the Army Achievement medal (7th Award); Good Conduct Medal (6th award); National Defense Service Medal; Global War on Terrorism; Liberation Iraqi Campaign Medal; NCO Professional Development Ribbon (w / a # 3); Army service ribbon; Overseas Ribbon (w / a #4) Air Assault Badge; the Honorable Order of Saint Barbra; and the Expert Artilleryman Tab.
