ROTC Offers Many Opportunities to Excel
In Army ROTC, it's not all classroom and field training. There are many opportunities
for you to get to know your fellow cadets better and increase your skills in a variety
of areas. Learn more about these events and activities below.

Ranger Challenge
The Ranger Challenge is an opportunity for schools to "compete" with each other
completing military tasks. In addition to a written examination where Cadets
test their Army knowledge, there are physical fitness drills and field exercises.
Battalions leave a Ranger Challenge with stronger bonds and sharper skills.

Pershing Rifles
The National Society of Pershing Rifles gives Army ROTC Cadets the opportunity
to develop to the highest degree possible. Cadets can take part in precision
trick rifle drill teams that provide them with the outstanding traits of
leadership, military bearing and discipline.

Ranger Training
Part of
becoming an Army Officer is challenging yourself beyond what you can do. We
include adventurous activities into our program allowing cadets to push
themselves to the edge and beyond and to do things most Americans do not get to
do. We rappel down a 40-foot tower, run through challenging confidence courses,
conquer a Field Leadership Reaction Course, and learn how to survive in the
water.

Commissioning Ceremony
Each spring cadets are commission into
the United States Army during ceremonies held on each campus.
Families, friends, University Presidents, and other distinguished guests take
part in the commissioning ceremony. The ceremony is conducted in accordance
with a long standing Army tradition where newly commissioned officers are sworn
into the service and have their gold second lieutenants’ bars pinned upon their
uniforms.

Field Training Exercise
The Mohawk Battalion conducts a Field
Training Exercise (FTX) each term. The FTX provides the cadets an opportunity
to demonstrate leadership, decision-making, and problem solving skills in a
tactical environment. The design of the FTX is to conduct safe, fun and
challenging training for cadets at every level. The basic course cadet's
focus is on improving leadership skills, introducing basic soldier skills and
improving self-confidence/motivation through physically and mentally demanding
training.
