Stand Out From The Rest
See how interesting college can be when you're a part of Army ROTC. You'll be
a college student first and foremost, just like the rest of the student body,
but there's a key difference: you'll have even more opportunities to succeed.
These opportunities include Field Training Exercises (FTXs) in the spring and
fall where Cadets build their teamwork and leadership skills. Cadets also
participate in Physical Training (PT) on a regular basis to keep up their
strength and endurance.
In addition, each battalion has its own unique calendar of events and activities.

 Classroom Instruction
The ROTC curriculum has a progression of Military Science classes. At
Rutgers these classes are 1.5 credits for each semester of the first two years
and 3 credits for each semester of the second two years. Military
Science classes focus on leadership development, introduction to Army doctrine
and organization, and historical familiarization with the customs and
traditions of the Army. There are several ways to enter the program and
Students can join with as little as four semesters left before graduation.

Leadership Labs & Physical Training
Part of the ROTC curriculum involves Leadership Labs where Cadets
participate in practical skill development in both leadership and military
tasks. Labs are planned, prepared and led by senior Cadets with Cadre
involvement. This affords Cadets the opportunity to experience leading
small groups as well as developing such skills as: troop leading procedures,
small unit tactics, basic drill and ceremony, map reading and land navigation,
basic first aid, and water survival.
Cadets participate in Physical Training (PT) as part of their ROTC
experience. PT is offered every morning for Cadets to participate.
Mandatory PT requires freshman to participate once a week and that requirement
grows to three times a week by senior year. This training not only
exposes Cadets to standard Army physical training techniques but also builds
esprit de corps and fosters a healthy attitude towards staying fit.

Fiend Training & Army Traditions
At least once a semester the Scarlet Knight Battalion will conduct an
overnight Field Training Exercise (FTX) at a local military instillation.
This provides the Cadets a focused opportunity for leadership development as
well as a practical application of military skills acquired during the
semester.
The Scarlet Knight Battalion participates in some time honored military
traditions. Once a semester there is a formal dinner. There is a
Dining In, which units customarily conduct to honor their unit lineage and
build esprit de corps as well as a Military Ball which involves dates and
spouses in a formal dining experience.
