New York City Marathon
Cadets volunteer their time at the New York City Marathon
Every year, cadets dedicate many hours to help prepare for the New York City Marathon. Cadets are stationed at the starting line in Staten Island, NY and help throughout the weekend, sometimes working through the night to make sure this world famous race gets off to a great start.
“It feels good to give back to the city and show what type of people we really are.”

Leadership And Excellence

Events and Activities

ROTC Offers Many Opportunities to Excel

In Army ROTC, it's not all classroom and field training. There are many opportunities for you to get to know your fellow cadets better and increase your skills in a variety of areas. Learn more about these events and activities below.

Ranger Challenge

The Ranger Challenge is an opportunity for schools to "compete" with each other completing military tasks. In addition to a written examination where Cadets test their Army knowledge, there are physical fitness drills and field exercises. Battalions leave a Ranger Challenge with stronger bonds and sharper skills.

Pershing Rifles

The National Society of Pershing Rifles gives Army ROTC Cadets the opportunity to develop to the highest degree possible. Cadets can take part in precision trick rifle drill teams that provide them with the outstanding traits of leadership, military bearing and discipline.

Leader’s Stakes

Once a semester, cadets participate in Leader’s Stakes.  It is a friendly competition that tests everything that the cadets have learned throughout the semester.  They compete as squads, in activities such as: grenade assault course, first aid, drill and ceremony, knowledge test, land navigation, and rope bridge obstacle.

Combat Water Survival Training

Several times a semester, the cadets travel to the local YMCA for swim training.  This is a test of physical endurance as well as mental toughness.  Cadets participate in activities such as: the 10 minute swim, 5 minutes of treading water, 15M swim with a weapon, equipment ditch, and walking off a 10M high dive.  Cadets find this activity both fun, and challenging.

Commissioning Ceremony

As contracted cadets graduate in December, May, and August, they end their time as cadets and commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Army.  A formal ceremony is held in celebration, where junior cadets can come and congratulate their classmates on a job well done.
