Stand Out From The Rest
See how interesting college can be when you're a part of Army ROTC. You'll be
a college student first and foremost, just like the rest of the student body,
but there's a key difference: you'll have even more opportunities to succeed.
These opportunities include Field Training Exercises (FTXs) in the spring and
fall where Cadets build their teamwork and leadership skills. Cadets also
participate in Physical Training (PT) on a regular basis to keep up their
strength and endurance.
In addition, each battalion has its own unique calendar of events and activities.

Being a part of the Huskie Battalion
The Huskie Battalion has a large diverse group of individuals with broad interests. Our ROTC Cadets are active in varsity and intramural sports, the NIU Student Association, fraternities, sororities and many other campus organizations. Cadets backgrounds range from students with no military experience prior to ROTC to students who are combat veterans with a wealth of knowledge which they willingly share with their fellow cadets. Ultimately the unique challenges and experiences of the NIU Army ROTC program form a common bond amongst the students that build friendships for a lifetime.

Opportunities to Learn and Grow
As a student progresses through the ROTC program they are placed in positions of increasingly higher responsibility, expanding the leadership capabilities of every student.

Ranger and Color Guard Teams
Our Ranger Team allows our students to increase their military skills as well as toughen their bodies and minds. This team prepares year-round and competes in several military and physical challenging competitions per year. The largest is the annual Ranger Challenge Competition held annually every fall semester.
The Color Guard team represents the battalion on campus and in the community. The team is highly sought after to open ceremonies, lead parades, and carry the colors into graduation and remembrance ceremonies.
