Stand Out From The Rest
See how interesting college can be when you're a part of Army ROTC. You'll be
a college student first and foremost, just like the rest of the student body,
but there's a key difference: you'll have even more opportunities to succeed.
These opportunities include Field Training Exercises (FTXs) in the spring and
fall where Cadets build their teamwork and leadership skills. Cadets also
participate in Physical Training (PT) on a regular basis to keep up their
strength and endurance.
In addition, each battalion has its own unique calendar of events and activities.

Be A Part Of The NIU ROTC Huskie Battalion
Our Battalion has a diverse student population from every walk of life and who have a broad range of interests. ROTC Cadets are active members of campus life; they participate in varsity and intramural sports, fraternities, sororities, and many other student organizations. Many Cadets have no military experience prior to ROTC while some will have served on Reserve or Active Duty with the US military. Ultimately, the unique challenges and experience associated with the NIU Army ROTC program lead to a common bond amongst Cadets who build friendships that last a lifetime.

Opportunities To Learn And Grow
As Cadets progress through the NIU Army ROTC program, they are assigned to positions that involve increasing levels of responsibility designed to expand and develop the leadership capabilities if every student.
Cadets can attend US Army schools like Airborne, Air Assault and Mountain Warfare training as well as participate in cultural and language immersion programs during the summer between academic years.

Rangers and Color Guard
Our Ranger Group provides an opportunity for those Cadets who want to be the most physically fit, tactically sound, and best leaders in our organization to pursue additional training and represent the unit at various competitions throughout the year. The rigors of the Ranger Group and their competitions will test your physical abilities and military skill. The largest competition takes place in the Fall where we compete against up to twenty other Universities.
The Color Guard represents the Battalion on campus and in the community. They are experts in military drill and are highly sought after to open ceremonies, lead parades and carry the colors during graduation and other ceremonies. Ask anyone in the University or local community and they will likely tell you of the professionalism and precision these Cadets bring to any occasion.
Both of these groups also require and support a minimum GPA standard.
