| Cadets Robertson and Wickman negotiate the FSB Land Navigation Course. |
| After FSB ROTC Cadets receive extensive classroom instruction in map reading and land navigation, they put it to practice. As part of their training, cadets participate in orienteering and dead reckoning courses which will refine their land navigation skills. These courses are conducted at Saint John’s University, Camp Ripley, and other sites in Minnesota. |

ROTC Offers Many Opportunities to Excel
In Army ROTC, it's not all classroom and field training. There are many opportunities
for you to get to know your fellow cadets better and increase your skills in a variety
of areas. Learn more about these events and activities below.

Ranger Challenge
The Ranger Challenge is an opportunity for schools to "compete" with each other
completing military tasks. In addition to a written examination where Cadets
test their Army knowledge, there are physical fitness drills and field exercises.
Battalions leave a Ranger Challenge with stronger bonds and sharper skills.

Pershing Rifles
The National Society of Pershing Rifles gives Army ROTC Cadets the opportunity
to develop to the highest degree possible. Cadets can take part in precision
trick rifle drill teams that provide them with the outstanding traits of
leadership, military bearing and discipline.

The Fighting Saints Battalion has events and activities that take place all year long, learn about them here.

Commissioning Ceremony
Each spring several cadets are commissioned into the United States Army during ceremonies held at Saint John’s University and St. Cloud State University. Families, friends, Universities Officials and other distinguished guests take part in the commissioning as well as the ceremonial staff.

Field Training Exercises
The FTX is ROTC's most demanding training tool. One weekend a semester is reserved for the Battalion to train at Camp Ripley where the student is completely immersed in an Army-style training environment. FTX's are meant to simulate the conditions that MSIII's will face at the Leader Development and Assessment Course at Ft. Lewis, Washington.

Leadership Laboratories
About once a month all cadets participate in outdoor training activities and involve skills that are best taught outside a classroom environment, such as terrain walks to improve land navigation, squad tactics, and survival training.
