ROTC Offers Many Opportunities to Excel
In Army ROTC, it's not all classroom and field training. There are many opportunities
for you to get to know your fellow cadets better and increase your skills in a variety
of areas. Learn more about these events and activities below.

Ranger Challenge
The Ranger Challenge is an opportunity for schools to "compete" with each other
completing military tasks. In addition to a written examination where Cadets
test their Army knowledge, there are physical fitness drills and field exercises.
Battalions leave a Ranger Challenge with stronger bonds and sharper skills.

Pershing Rifles
The National Society of Pershing Rifles gives Army ROTC Cadets the opportunity
to develop to the highest degree possible. Cadets can take part in precision
trick rifle drill teams that provide them with the outstanding traits of
leadership, military bearing and discipline.

The Greyhound Battalion’s team has brought home first place honors for two straight years and hopes to keep this new found tradition alive in years to come.

Color guard
A time honored tradition at Loyola College; cadets present the colors (United States and Maryland State Flag) at athletic and ceremonial events including home games and Veterans Day events. Color Guard training demands precision and coordination from participating cadets, enhancing skills in Drill and Ceremony. The Greyhound Battalion Color Guard is in high demand by groups and communities in and around the Baltimore area due to the exceptional performance by its members.

Military Ball
The Greyhound ROTC cadets host a Military Ball twice each year once in the fall semester and once during the spring semester. This ball is an opportunity for cadets to wear their Class A's, bring their spouse or a date and enjoy themselves for dinner, dancing, and fun.

Commissioning Ceremony
Each spring several cadets are commissioned into the United States Army during ceremonies held on campus. Families, friends, University Presidents and other distinguished guests take part in the commissioning as well as the ceremonial "First Salute" tradition.
