John Carroll University’s Army ROTC over the years has been exploding.

John Carroll University’s ROTC has been both rewarding and motivating.  Since the inception of ROTC at John Carroll, we have seen numerous changes in the participation in the program.  In the early years, it was required that all males participate in military science classes.  At that time as well, John Carroll’s ROTC program commissioned just Transportation Officers for the United States Army.  Today, ROTC is an elective class for any and all students to participate in and we commission officers into all branches of the United States Army, Army Reserves or Army National Guard.

ROTC John Carroll University has changed from being a required course for all males enrolled to be offered as an elective for all students to participate in.

John Carroll University ROTC was established as a Transportation Corps unit.  Since the first cadet was sworn in as a second lieutenant in June 1951.  More than 1,895 have received Army Reserve commissions, and over 150 have received Regular Army commissions.

From 1950 to 1960, the Basic ROTC course was mandatory.  In September 1969, students were given an option of taking either two years of physical education or the Basic ROTC course.  In 1978, John Carroll University ROTC program was redesignated as a General Military Science program.   In 1986, we became known as Wolfpack Battalion and Ranger Company and took part in Ranger Challenge skills competition.
