LTC Patterson

Professor Military Science

LTC Patterson graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY, in 1991 with a Bachelor’s of Science in International Relations, and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant of Infantry.  Upon completing the Infantry Officer Basic Course and Ranger School at Ft. Benning, GA, he served as a rifle platoon leader, support platoon leader, scout platoon leader, and assistant operations officer in the 2nd Battalion, 14th Infantry Regiment, 10th Mountain Division (Light) at Fort Drum, New York from 1992-1996, during which time he deployed to both Somalia and Haiti as a platoon leader in combat.  Following attendance at the Special Forces Assessment and Selection Course, the Infantry Officer Advanced Course, and the Special Forces Qualification Course, LTC Patterson re-branched to Special Forces and assumed command of Special Forces Operational Detachment Alpha 313, A Company, 1st Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne) at Fort Bragg, NC.  He spent the next two years periodically deployed across western and northern Africa.  He next served for two years as the Future Operations and Plans officer for the 1st Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne), followed by attendance to the Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, CA, where he earned his Master’s of Science in Defense Analysis and received the Department of Defense Outstanding Academic Achievement Award for 2001.  He was then selected for and attended the Army’s Command and General Staff College, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.  Returning to Fort Bragg, NC, he served at the John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School as the Personnel Recovery Branch Chief, and then as the Commander, A Company, 1st Battalion, 1st Special Warfare Training Group (Airborne), where he led what was at that time the Army’s only Level C Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape (SERE) school.  He continued to serve in the 1st Special Warfare Training Group (Airborne) as the Battalion Executive Officer, 1st Battalion, and then as the Group Operations Officer.  In June 2007, he was assigned to the John Carroll ‘Wolfpack’ Battalion, as the Professor of Military Science for the ROTC program.

His awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (1 Oak Leaf Cluster), the Army Commendation Medal (2 Oak Leaf Clusters), the Army Achievement Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (1 Bronze Star), the Humanitarian Service Medal (1 Bronze Star), the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal (1 Bronze Star), and the United Nations medal.  His unit awards include the Valorous Unit Award (with the 2/14th IN BN) and the Army Superior Unit Award (with the 1st Special Warfare Training Group (Airborne)).  His badges include the Master Parachutist Badge, the Air Assault Badge, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Ranger tab, and the Special Forces Tab.

He is married to the former Miss Pavlov, of Pennsylvania, and has 3-year old twin boys.

Assistant Professor of Military Science

3/03-3/05 Battalion Executive Officer:  Training Support Battalion (TSBn) comprised of 151 personnel responsible for training, operations, and logistical support to 137 client units in a five state region.  Responsible for day-to-day operations of the battalion to include all administrative, security, plans, training, operations, logistics, budget, and supply operations.  Served as the Deputy, Defense Coordinating Officer (DCO) during Military Support to Civilian Authorities (MSCA) during emergency operations.  Responsible for the training and execution of a Defense Coordinating Element (DCE) in response to terrorist attacks in Pennsylvania and West Virginia.  Deploy Mobilization Assistance Teams to Fort Dix, NJ and Aberdeen Proving Grounds, MD for Power Projection Platform mobilization operations.

7/00-3/03 Battalion Operations Officer:  Multi-component Combat Support/Combat Service Support training organization comprised of Engineers, Military Police, Transportation, Ordnance, and logistical personnel responsible for 137 units in a five state region.

1/98-6/00 Professor of Military Science:  Training and operations officer for a Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) battalion, John Carroll University, consisting of 103 cadets and six cadre members.  Serves as the primary instructor for Military Science third year class cadets.  Overall responsible for the day-to-day cadet training program.  Responsibilities include planning, coordination, logistics, and supervision of all organizational level training exercises in preparation for cadet’s third year evaluation and assessment into the Army as a commissioned officer. 

9/96-1/98 Company Commander: Quartermaster Regiment, Fort Lee, VA.  Leading a 325 member organization responsible for all training, health and welfare issues, administration and morale.  Instituted change management program.  Created vision, mission, and core beliefs training. Slashed human resource related complaints from average of three per week to two per year.  Established best practices model adopted by units throughout Army community.

CPT Cooper

Assistant Professor of Military Science/Recruiting Operations Officer

SUMMARY (DOWN AND DIRTY):

CPT Cooper began his service in 1992 as an enlisted soldier in the Army’s Military Police Corps. “FORCE OFCHOICE...HOOAH!” After becoming a Non-Commission Officer (NCO) and getting a taste of leadership he decided to alter his career path. CPT Cooper accepted a commission as a second lieutenant through the Officer Candidate School (OCS) in 1997. He went on to serve in various duty assignments exploring each functional areas of the Military Police Corps including: Area Security, Maneuver and Mobility Support, Police Intelligence Operations, Internment and resettlement, and Law and Order.

 

CPT Cooper and his wife have three wonderful children.

MSG Bannerman

Senior Military Instructor

MSG David Bannerman is from Middleburg HTS Ohio, He entered the Army November 1991, where he attended basic training at Ft Benning GA. He was first assigned to the 3rd U.S. Infantry (The Old Guard) in Washington D.C where he served in the Presidential Marching Platoon. MSG Bannerman then in 1993 attended the Ranger Indoctrination Program (RIP) in FT Benning GA. Upon completion of RIP he was assigned to the 1st Ranger BN at Hunter Army Airfield GA where he served from Rifleman to Weapons Squad leader. In 1999 he was the assigned to the 75th Ranger Regimental Head Quarters Ft Benning GA where he served as a Platoon Sergeant. In 2001 he was stationed at 2nd Ranger BN FT Lewis Washington where he served as a Platoon Sergeant. Then in 2003 he was assigned to the University of Dayton ROTC serving as the Training NCO. In 2005 he was then assigned again to the 1st Ranger Bn where he then served as Operation Sergeant Major and Aco First Sergeant. He has served in support of the Global War on Terrorism in both Afghanistan and Iraq.

His Schools consist of: Infantry basic training, Air Assault School, Airborne school, Pathfinder School, Jump Master School, SOT, PLDC, BNCOC, ANCOC, Small Unit leaders Course, Cadet Command Pre Command Course, and Ranger School.

His awards include 3 Bronze Stars, 4 Meritorious Service medals, 4 Army commendation Medals, Joint Service Achievement Medal, 3 Army Achievement medals, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal with Arrow head, Iraqi Campaign Medal with Bronze star, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Bronze star, 5 Good Conduct Medals, Humanitarian Service Medal.

Decorations Include: Airborne wings, Master Parachutist Wings with Combat Jump Star, Pathfinder Badge, Air Assault Badge, Combat Infantrymen’s Badge, Expert Infantrymen’s Badge and the Ranger Tab.

He is married to his wife Michelle and has 3 children Dakota, Drake and David.








SFC Smith

Military Science Instructor

Joined the Army in August 1991. Attended Infantry basic training at Ft. Benning GA. and has been stationed at Ft. Ord., CA; Ft. Hood, TX; Friedberg, GE; Ft. Stewart, GA; Ft. Jackson, SC; Ft. Carson, CO and John Carroll University.  SFC Smith has been in the Army for 15 years and has served as a Mortar Squad Leader, Section Leader, Platoon Sergeant, Drill Sergeant and Military Science Instructor. Awards include Combat Infantryman's Badge, Bronze Star, Air Assault badge, and Drill Sergeant Badge.








Mr. Reiter

Human Resource Assistant

Mr. Reiter retired after 21 years of service in the Army as a Sergeant First Class.  His main duties included being a M-1 Armor Crewman and an Army Medical Recruiter.








Mrs. Krebs

Secretary

Mrs. Krebs has worked as the Department of Military Science Secretary for a little under one year, but has been an employee of John Carroll for over 7 years. She is a native of the Cleveland, Ohio area.








Ms. Massacci

Battalion Logistics Technician

In 1978 she began her service as an enlisted soldier in the Army’s Military Police Corps. “FORCE OF CHOICE… HOOAH” She went on to serve in various duties exploring each functional area of the Military Police Corps including: Area Security, Physical Security, Special Reaction Team, Crime Scene Investigations, Maneuver and Mobility Support, Military Police Intelligence Operations. Motto: Assist, Protect and Defend. She met her husband of 25 years while enlisted and has two children, daughter and son in-law, and grand daughter who live locally and son who graduated from the West Point Military Academy and now is a 1st Lieutenant in the US Army Military Police Corps.
