LTC David Millet
Professor of Military Science
Lieutenant Colonel (LTC) M. David Millet is a native of Seattle, Washington
and received his commission as a Second
Lieutenant on June 03, 1984. LTC Millet earned a Bachelor's of Science
Degree in Psychology from Seattle University and his Master's Degree in Human
Resource Management from Troy State University, Troy, Alabama.
In February, 1985, LTC Millet reported to 1-4th Infantry Regiment in
Ascheffenburg, Germany where he served as a Bradley Rifle Platoon Leader, Scout
Platoon Leader and Battalion Logistics Officer. After completion of the
Infantry Officer Advance Course in July, 1989, LTC Millet was assigned to the
101st Air Assault Division in Fort Campbell, Kentucky where he
served as an Infantry Company Commander, and Battalion and Brigade Assistant
Operations Officer. In September, 1990, LTC Millet deployed to
Southwest Asia as Commander of B/2-327th IN Company and served in
Operation Desert Shield/Storm.
In June, 1992, LTC Millet reported to Fort Benning, Georgia to serve as a
Small Group Leader for the Infantry Officer Advance Course and also commanded
the International Student Training Detachment. Upon completion of Command
and General Staff College in June, 1997, LTC Millet was assigned to
1-23rd Infantry Regiment, Fort Lewis, Washington where he served as
the Battalion Operations Officer and Battalion Executive Officer. In
October, 1999, LTC Millet moved to Camp Smith, Hawaii, where he served on the
Pacific Command Joint Staff in the Operations and Readiness Division until May,
2002. LTC Millet most recently commanded the 1-335th Training
Support Battalion, Indianapolis, Indiana.
LTC Millets’ military education includes the Infantry Officer Basic and
Advance Course, Combined Arms Services Staff School, Army and Air Force Command
and General Staff Colleges and the Joint Combined War Fighting School.

MAJ Robert Underwood
MS l Instructor and Advisor
MAJ Robert Underwood entered the Army in Missoula, MT on 6 June 1984 and
attended Basic Training, Advanced Individual Training and Airborne School at
Fort Benning, Georgia. His first duty assignment was with the 1st Bn
325th Airborne Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division,
at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, where he served as a Rifleman, Machine Gunner
and Battalion Scout Platoon Squad Leader from Oct 1984 to April 1988.
After MAJ Underwood’s first active duty enlistment he jointed the 163rd
Armor Brigade, Montana National Guard in April 1988 and served as M60 Tank
Gunner, M1 Abrams Platoon Leader and Company Executive Officer. He also joined
the Reserve Officers Training Corps at the University of Montana and received
his commission on 19 Jun 1990 and a Bachelor of Science in Small Business
Management in June 1992.
On 19 June 1992, MAJ Underwood reentered active Army and attended the
Infantry Officers Basic Course and Jumpmaster Course at Fort Benning, Georgia.
He was later assigned to the 3rd BN, 325th Airborne
Infantry Regiment in Vicenza, Italy, where he served as an Infantry Rifle
Platoon Leader, TOW Platoon Leader and Company Executive Officer. Upon
completion of his overseas tour he attended the Infantry Officers Advance
Course at Fort Benning, Georgia.
Upon assignment to the 10th Mountain Division at Fort Drum, NY,
he served a G3 Assistant Operations Officer and Battalion Air Operations
Officer from January 1996 to June 1997. He later commanded C Company,
2nd BN, 22nd Infantry from July 1997 until March 1999.
During his command C Company deployed to Bosina-Herzagovena in Jul 1998
to Nov 1998. After command MAJ Underwood was assigned to 2nd BN,
357th Infantry, Fort Lewis, Washington from April 1999 to June 2002,
where he served as Company Team Chief and Battalion Operation
Officer.
His next assignment was the 5th Ranger Training Battalion at
Dahlonega, Georgia where he served as the Battalion Operations Officer for the
Mountain Phase of Ranger School from June 0202 to Mar 2004. Then in March 2004
he was assigned to the Department of the Army G3 Improvised Explosive Device
(IED) Task Force. He served in Iraq as the Detachment Commander from March 2004
until February 2005. Presently MAJ Underwood is the recruiting officer
and MS I advisor and instructor in the Department of Military Science at
Eastern Washington University in Cheney, WA.
Throughout his tenure in the Army, MAJ Underwood graduated from Airborne
School, Jumpmaster Course, Primary Leadership Development Course (PLDC), Ranger
School, Joint Firepower Control Course, Infantry Basic and Advanced Courses,
and the Combined Arms and Services Staff School.

MAJ Kraig Van Vleck
Assistant Professor of Military Science
Major Kraig Van Vleck graduated from Central Washington University with a
Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics in 1996. He was commissioned a
second lieutenant in the Field Artillery in August 1996 and attended the Field
Artillery Officer Basic Course at Fort Sill, Oklahoma.
MAJ Van Vleck’s first assignment was with the 2nd Battalion, 17th Field
Artillery at Camp Hovey, Republic of Korea, where he served as the Headquarters
Battery Executive Officer. In June of 1998, MAJ Van Vleck was later
assigned to FT Campbell, KY. While stationed at FT Campbell, he served as
a battery fire direction officer in Alpha Battery, 3rd Battalion, 320th FA and
was later assigned as a platoon leader in Charlie Battery, 1st Battalion, 377th
Field Artillery. After completing the Field Artillery Captains Career
Course in December 2000, MAJ Van Vleck returned to Korea and was assigned as a
battalion fire direction officer for 2nd Battalion, 17th Field
Artillery. In March 2002, he was assigned to FT Lewis, where he served as
a Fire Support Officer for 5-20 IN and S-1 in 1-37 FA.
Major Van Vleck assumed command from HSB 1-37 FA on 30 Sept 2003. In
November 2003, he deployed with the battery to Iraq in support of Operation
Iraqi Freedom. On 24 February, 2005, MAJ Van Vleck relinquished
command and was assigned to HHC I Corps. MAJ Van Vleck was assigned to Eastern
Washington University in April 2006 as an assistant professor of military
science.
Major Van Vleck's military education includes the Field Artillery Captains
Career Course, the Field Artillery Basic Course, and the Air Assault
Course. His awards include the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service
Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal and the Air
Assault Badge.

SFC Elvin Bermudez
MS ll Instructor, Battalion Training NCO
SFC Elvin Bermudez entered the United States Army on 10 October 1988
completing OSUT Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. He was then
assigned to 84th Engineer Company, 2nd Armor Calvary
Regiment at Bayreuth, Germany serving as a M60 gunner and M-577 Command Post
Driver. During his time with the 84th Engineer Company he
conducted border patrols and deployed to South West Asia in support of
Operation Desert Shield/Storm. His next assignment was with the Bravo
Company 1st Infantry Division at Fort Riley, Kansas where he served
as a Sapper Team Leader. In August 1994, he was assigned to Alpha
Company, 2nd Infantry Division in Korea where he served as a Sapper
Team and Squad Leader.
In September 1995 he returned from overseas to Bravo Company,
41st Engineer Battalion, 10th Infantry Division at Fort
Drum, New York where he attended and successfully completed Air Assault, Rappel
Master, Mountain Welfare, and the Sapper Leader Course. He also attended
Jefferson Community College and graduated with an Associates in Applied Science
Degree.
On April 1999, he returned to Germany and was assigned as a Sapper Squad
Leader and Operations Sergeant with Charlie Company 82nd Engineer
Battalion, 1st Infantry Division Forward. During his tour with
the C/82nd he deployed to Kosovo in support of Operation Task Force
Falcon. Following the deployment, he was assigned to Head and
Headquarters Company, 82nd Engineer Battalion as the S-2 Operations
Sergeant. He extended his stay in Germany and was assigned to the Charlie
Company, 54th Engineer Battalion, 130th Engineer Brigade
at Bamberg Germany, where he reported as the S-3 Training NCO.
Afterwards, he became a Platoon Sergeant where he deployed again in 2003 to
South West Asia in support of Operation Enduring/Operation Iraqi Freedom. SFC
Bermudez currently serves as the Training NCO/MS ll Instructor for the ROTC
Fighting Eagle Battalion at Eastern Washington University in Cheney,
Washington.
His awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal
(4th Oak Leaf Clusters), Army Achievement Medal (3 Oak Leaf Clusters),Army Good
Conduct Medal (4th Knot), Army Superior Unit Award, Valorous Unit
Award, Presidential Unit Citation, National Defense Service Medal (1 Bronze
Star), South West Asia Service Medal (3 Bronze Stars), Kosovo Campaign Medal,
Korean Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal,
Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Professional
Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Medal, NATO Medal,
Kuwait Liberation Medals, Air Assault Badge, Drivers Badge and the Sapper
Tab.

Mr Roy Hood
Human Resource Manager
Mr. Hood is the Cadet Manager for the Fighting Eagle Battalion at
EWU. He is retired from the U. S. Air Force where he served in the
Netherlands, the United Kingdom, the Republic of Korea and the Republic of
China. His state-side assignments include the HQ Strategic Command in
Nebraska and the 4th Strategic Reconnaissance Wing in California.
Mr. Hood is a graduate of the Noncommissioned Officers Academy, Kapaun
Air Base, Germany. He earned a BA from Whitworth College, Spokane,
WA and a Master's of Public Administration from Eastern
Washington University.

Mr. Dennis Howser
Supply Technician
Mr. Howser served on active duty from August 1973 to August 1993. He
worked as a Vehicle Mechanic, Material Supply Controller, Maintenance
Controller and Analyst, Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor and Mobility
Planner. His assignment includes Operation Desert Shield and Storm.
He has an Associate degree with the Community College of the Air Force in
Automotive Technology and an Associate in Management studies with the
University of Maryland. He is currently working towards a Bachelor of
Arts degree in Management.
Mr. Howser's awards include: National Defense Service
Medal (1 Bronze Star), AF Commendation Medal (2 OLC), AF Achievement Medal, NCO
PME Graduate, Small Arms Marksmanship Ribbon, Humanitarian Service Medal, AF
Longevity Service Award Ribbon (4 OLC), Oversees Ribbon (3 OLC), AF Training
Ribbon, AF Outstanding Unit (2 OLC), AF Good Conduct Medal (Silver OLC), and
the Southwest Asia Service Medal.

Ms Dyanna Flores
Secretary
Ms. Flores began working at Eastern Washington University in July
1983. She has held positions at Eastern as an Office Assistant and
Secretary Senior in the Provost/Vice President for Student Services
Office, Secretary to the Dean of Students and in the Department of
Communication Studies. Ms. Flores transferred to the EWU Department
of Military Science in November 2002.
