Leadership And Excellence

About The Battalion

Teaching The Leaders Of Tomorrow

The Department of Military Science, Eastern Illinois University commissions cadets as Second Lieutenants in the United States Army, the United States Army Reserve, and the Illinois National Guard.  EIU ROTC promotes good citizenship in all cadets through adherence to the Army Values and the Code of the Army Officer.

It is a leadership development program and academic minor that culminates with a commission as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army.  ROTC can be completed in two, three, or four years by cadets in conjunction with any field of study or academic major offered by the University.

Battalion History

The ROTC department began in 1980 as an extension from the University of Illinois ROTC program. Eastern Illinois University was granted host status in 1982 and afforded full staffing of faculty to train the future officers of our country.  Since its inception, the Panther Battalion has commissioned over 327 Second Lieutenants into the United States Army.

Faculty and Staff

The Army ROTC program is only as strong as its instructors. At EIU, we have a group of highly qualified and motivated Officers, Non-Commissioned Officers, and Civilians who care about the development and success of each and every Cadet in the program.
