MAJ d’Alary Fechet
Major History
Major d’Alary Fechet served as the Professor of Military Science at Claremont McKenna College from 1930-31. Already a decorated veteran of WWI when he arrived to instruct cadets, he went on to serve in WWII as the Deputy Chief of Staff for the 1st Infantry Division and as commander of the 16th Infantry Regiment. Like MAJ Fechet, our current cadre brings a wealth of practical experience to the classroom.

LTC Anneliese Steele

Professor of Military Science and Leadership

LTC Anneliese M. Steele is a graduate of the United States Military Academy where she received a Bachelor of Science degree and a commission in the Corps of Engineers.

Previous assignments include duty as Executive Officer, Bravo Company, 35th Engineer Battalion (One Station Unit Training) and Platoon Leader and Executive Officer in the 515th Engineer Company, 169th Engineer Battalion, Ft. Leonard Wood, MO.  LTC Steele deployed to combat as the Executive Officer with the 515th to Saudi Arabia in support of Operation Desert Storm.  Following this, she served with the 52nd Engineer Combat Battalion (Heavy) as the Battalion Engineer Equipment Maintenance Officer and the Battalion S-2 Intelligence Officer.  From December 1993 to February 1994 she commanded Bravo Company, 52nd Engineer Battalion, “Keepers of the Castle.”  During her tenure the Company deployed to Haiti in support of Operation Uphold Democracy.  From August 1995 to August 1997 she commanded the Bravo Company, 62nd Engineer Battalion, “Bulldogs.”  During her tenure, the company successfully deployed to Bosnia and served six months in support of Operations Joint Endeavor and Joint Guard. 

After command she served as an Observer Trainer for Charlie Team in the Battle Command Training Program at Ft. Leavenworth, KS.  For six months she served as the Battle Operating Systems (BOS) Chief for Mobility Survivability.  Then she attended the Command and General Staff College (CGSC) and the School of Advanced Military Studies (SAMS).  Upon completion of SAMS she served as the Chief of Plans for the 1st Infantry Division in Wurzburg, Germany and was the lead planner for the Divisions’ Kosovo Force (KFOR) 4 rotation.  She deployed to Kosovo and initially served as the Chief of Plans for the Multinational Brigade East (MNB-E) and then the S-3 Operations Officer for the 9th Combat Engineer Battalion, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, Dagger Brigade.  She returned from Kosovo and continued to serve as the S-3 and then Executive Officer for the 9th Combat Engineer Battalion in Schweinfurt, Germany.  As the Executive Officer of the 9th Engineer Battalion she deployed with the Dagger Brigade into combat and served in support of Operations Iraqi Freedom at Forward Operating Base Ramagen, in Taqrit, Iraq.  

Upon return from Iraq, LTC Steele served as a Special Assistant and the Assistant Executive Officer to the TRADOC Commander at Ft. Monroe, VA.  Following this she served as the Chief of Contract Administration for the National Training Center Operations Group at Ft. Irwin, CA.  LTC Anneliese Steele is currently serving as the Professor of Military Science at Claremont McKenna College in Claremont, CA. 

Her military education includes the Engineer Officer Basic Course, Engineer Officer Advanced Course, Airborne School, the NBC Defense Course, the Junior Officer’s Maintenance Course, the Combined Arms Services Staff School, the Command and General Staff College (CGSC) and the School of Advanced Military Studies (SAMS).  She holds a Masters Degree in Architectural Engineering from the University of Kansas and a Masters of Military Arts and Sciences in Theater Operations from the Command and General Staff College. 

Her awards include the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal with five Oak Leaf Clusters, the Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Army Achievement Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Meritorious Unit Commendation, the National Defense Service Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Southwest Asia Service Medal with three bronze stars, the Kosovo Campaign Medal with bronze star, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Armed Forces Service Medal, the Humanitarian Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon, the NATO Service Medal, the Kuwait Liberation Medal (Saudi Arabia), and the Kuwait Liberation Medal (Kuwait).

She is married to LTC Douglas Skaggs and has two daughters, Sadie and Carmen.
