LTC William Howard

Professor of Military Science

LIEUTENANT COLONEL WILLIAM L. HOWARD, JR Lieutenant Colonel William L. Howard, Jr. was commissioned from Longwood College in 1987, where he graduated with a B.S. degree in Management Information Systems. He also holds a Masters Degree in Information Resource Management from Central Michigan University.

He is a graduate of the Ordnance Officer Basic Course, Aviation Officer Advanced Course, Initial Entry Rotary Wing Course, and the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College.

Lieutenant Colonel Howard's past unit assignments include Tech Supply Officer/Platoon Leader 2d ID, 704th Maintenance Support Battalion, Camp Stanley, Korea; Battalion Maintenance Officer, 4th ID, 104th MI Battalion, Fort Carson, CO; Shop Officer, 4th ID, 4th Forward Support Battalion, Fort Carson, CO; XO, 12th Aviation Brigade, C/6-159th Aviation Regiment, Giebelstadt, Germany; Eagle Detachment Commander, Princirlik, Turkey; Company Commander, HHC, 5-158th Aviation Regiment, Giebelstadt, Germany; Aviation Operations Officer, 1st Army, 13th Brigade, Ft. Meade, MD; Chief, Assistance and Investigation Division, 1st Army, Inspector General, Ft. Gillem, GA; Battalion S3 and XO, 1AD, 4th Aviation Brigade, 2nd Battalion, Hanau, Germany; Battalion XO, 1AD, 4th Aviation Brigade, 2nd Battalion, Baghdad International Airport, Iraq.

His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal (3OCL), Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal (2OCL), Army Achievement Medal (1OCL), National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service, War on Terrorism Expeditionary, War on Terrorism Service, Humaniterian Service, Ranger Tab, Airborne Badge, Air Assault Badge, and the Senior Aviator badge.

LTC Howard is married to the former Tammy Hahn of Birmingham, Alabama. They have two children William L. Howard, III ("Trey"), 8 years old and Madison, 6 years old.








MAJ Scott Murphy

Assistant Professor of Military Science

Major Scott A. Murphy is a native of California. He enlisted in the Army in 1984 as an Infantryman, then joining Special Forces in 1988. He received his commission through Officer Candidate School at Ft Benning, Georgia, and attended Tarleton State University in Texas. His assignments include: Rifle Team Leader, 503rd Infantry Battalion, Camp Hovey Korea; Rifle Squad Leader, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division; Special Forces Communication Sergeant, ODA 055, 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne); Special Forces Instructor, John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School; Platoon Leader, Shop Officer, and S3, 544th Maintenance Battalion; Commander, ODA 744, 7th Special Forces Group.

Major Murphy holds a Bachelors Degree from Tarleton State University. He is a graduate of the Ordnance Officers Basic Course, the Infantry Officers Advance Course; and the Special Forces Qualification Course.

His military awards and decorations include the Bronze Star, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal with oak leaf clusters, the Army Achievement Medal with oak leaf clusters, the Southwest Asia Service Medal with star, and the Humanitarian Service medal. He has also earned the Special Forces Tab, the Combat and Expert Infantryman Badges, the Master Parachutist and Military Free Fall (HALO) badges.








MAJ Robert Medina

Recruiting Operations Officer

MAJ Robert Medina was commissioned into the branch of Infantry from the CSUF Army ROTC program.   He has served in the 2nd Infantry Division in the Republic of Korea, the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment at Fort Irwin, CA and in the US Army Recruiting Command.  He graduated from CSUF in 1995 with a MA in History.








MSG Daniel Sturgell

Recruiting Operations Officer

Master Sergeant Sturgell was born in Amherst, Ohio and entered the Army in Cleveland, Ohio in June of 1984. He attended One Station Unit Training at Fort Knox, Kentucky and graduated as a 19D Cavalry Scout.

1SG Sturgell has served in HHC 2-7 Cav, FT Hood, TX as a Bradley Driver and Gunner, HHC 2-5 Cav as a Bradley Gunner, B Troop 3-4 Cav, 3ID, Schweinfurt Germany as a Bradley Commander, Senior Scout, and Troop Bradley Master Gunner, 1-81 Armor, FT Knox, KY as an Instructor/Writer, B Company 4-13 INF and C Company 3-13 INF, FT Jackson, SC as a Senior Drill Sergeant, A Troop 1-7 Cav, FT Hood, TX as a Platoon Sergeant, HQ 1st Cav as an Assistant Inspector General, HQ 2-7 Cav as Operations Sergeant Major, First Sergeant of Apache and Headquarters Troops 1-7 Cav.

1SG Sturgell’s military education includes all levels of the Noncommissioned Officer Education System through ANCOC, the First Sergeants Course, Inspector Generals Course, Drill Sergeant Course, NBC Officer Course, Total Army Retention Course, M3 Bradley Master Gunner Course, Bradley Senior Instructor Operator Course, Instructor Trainer Course, and various other professional development courses.

Civilian education includes AA Degree and is currently working toward a BA in Business Management.








SFC Raul Rivas

Training NCO

SFC Rivas enlisted in the U.S army in Jan 1995 as an Infantryman 11B has served as, saw gunner, M60 machine gunner, M60 assistant gunner, M60 ammo barrel, M203 gunner, rifleman, team leader, squad leader, platoon SGT. His current position Military science instructor. SFC Rivas has been in various units, Aco 1/503 INF Camp Casey Korea, C Company 3/502 INF Fort Campbell Kentucky, C Company 2/35 INF Schofield Barracks HI, A Company 1/32 INF Fort Drum NY, A Company and D Company 1/505 PIR 82ND Airborne Division, Fort Bragg NC. SFC Rivas had opportunities to deploy to Kosovo on a peacekeeping operation with A Company 1/32 INF Fort Drum NY. Also deploy with D Company 1/505 PIR 82ND Airborne Division, Fort Bragg NC to Iraq, and Afghanistan in support of the Global War on Terrorism.
