LTC Gary Sargent
Professor of Military Science
LTC Sargent has held numerous world wide assignments as both a Foreign Area
Officer (FAO) and as a member of the US Army Special Forces. As the
Professor of Military Science he is responsible for ensuring that quality young
people are brought into the program and that they receive quality
training. He is also the MS IV Instructor and Advisor.
LTC (ret.) Augusto Lecaros
Recruiting Operations Officer
LTC Lecaros is a retired US Army Reserve Transportation Corps officer.
He has served in Korea and Fort McCoy, WI. His principle duty is as the
Cal Poly Recruiting Operations Officer.
Major Richard Wellman
Assistant Professor of Military Science
MAJ Wellman comes to Cal Poly after 36 months of duty at Fort Riley.
While at Fort Riley, he deployed with the 1st Infantry Division to Iraq as a
Signal Company Commander. His principle duties are as the MS III
Instructor and Training Officer.
MSG Mark Byrd
Senior Military Instructor / MS III Advisor
MSG Byrd comes to the battalion from Fort Bragg, where he served as the
First Sergeant of Alpha Company, 2/508th Infantry Battalion. In 2005, his unit
deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. His principle
duties are as Senior Military Instructor and as the MS III advisor.
Sergeant First Class Steven Hall
Assistant Professor of Military Science
SFC Hall comes to the battalion from Fort Hood, where he served as the S-3
Sergeant Major of an Air Defense Artillery Battalion. In 2004, his unit
deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. His principle
duties are as Training NCO and Orienteering Instructor.
Gerald Tefelroa
Battalion Supply Technician
Mr. Tefelroa served in the Army for 8 years as a Supply Sargent prior to
entering Federal Civil Service. His principle duties are as the
battalion's Supply Technician.
Jean Dyer
Human Resource Assistant
Ms. Dyer has been with the Fighting Mustang Battalion for 5 years. Her
principle duties are cadet personnel and finance actions and cadet records
management.
