| There are many things to get involved with in the ROTC program. You can volunteer for community events and athletic events. They keep ROTC fun and interesting. It also makes school seem more interesting because you can do more than just go to class, you can be part of a team. |

ROTC Offers Many Opportunities to Excel
In Army ROTC, it's not all classroom and field training. There are many opportunities
for you to get to know your fellow cadets better and increase your skills in a variety
of areas. Learn more about these events and activities below.
Ranger Challenge
The Ranger Challenge is an opportunity for schools to "compete" with each other
completing military tasks. In addition to a written examination where Cadets
test their Army knowledge, there are physical fitness drills and field exercises.
Battalions leave a Ranger Challenge with stronger bonds and sharper skills.
Pershing Rifles
The National Society of Pershing Rifles gives Army ROTC Cadets the opportunity
to develop to the highest degree possible. Cadets can take part in precision
trick rifle drill teams that provide them with the outstanding traits of
leadership, military bearing and discipline.
Commissioning Ceremony
Each spring several cadets are commissioned into the United States Army
immediately after graudation ceremonies. Families, friends, faculty, and the
university president take part.
Field Training Exercises
The Governors Guard Battalion conducts field training exercises each
semester. Cadets have a chance to put into practice the leadership and tactical
skills that they have learned in the classroom and in the labs.
5th Brigade Ranger Challenge
Ranger Challenge is an intense two-day competition where Governors Guard
cadets compete against cadets from all over Tennessee and South Carolina plus
some schools from North Carolina and Georgia. The Cadets spend months preparing
to compete in tasks such as land navigation, marksmanship, hand grenades,
combat swimming, and the dreaded mystery event.
